An important part of life at college is your accommodation. For many students, living at home is not an option. You might find that your best option is living in an apartment, but, having never had to search for one before, you might find it difficult to locate something that is right for you. Here are four great tips which could help you find the right apartment.
1) Know your budget and stick to it. Too often people can be lured into renting something that is way beyond their means. Before you even consider walking into a real estate office, carefully plan out your budget and figure out how much you can afford to spend on rent. The general rule of thumb is: rent should be less than 55 percent of your income.
2) Location, location, location. Not every alternative, listed on places such as Atlanta apartments, is created equal. Avoid apartments which are too far from college. Research the area as well. Find out if the neighborhood is safe enough for you to be able to live comfortably. Also, check to make sure that the apartment has adequate safety measures, such as secure locks on the doors and windows.
3) Ask the right questions. Don’t be afraid to thoroughly question the realtor. There are many important questions you could ask them.
4) When it comes to inspection time be sure to thoroughly look over the apartment. Check every nook and cranny; try to be aware that even though the place might look fantastic on inspection day, there could be several things wrong with it.
